Our local river, the Mataura , has several Fish and Game foot access points from the Nokomai Road which runs beside the river. The lower gorge has foot access from the Nokomai Bridge.
New Zealand has a riverbank access called the “Queen’s Chain “ which gives anglers 20 metres or 22 yards walking access either side of the river bank. The access points from the road give permission to cross the property owner’s land. It is very important to close gates firmly and not disturb any grazing stock.
Full Day and half day guided fishing trips are available. Guided fishing is strongly recommended if you are new to the area. It is advantageous to have at least a day with a guide to ensure you experience quality fishing with the guide’s local knowledge.
